Ticketmaster is such a scam.

Today I bought 2 tickets to see the band The Fray at the TLA as a Christmas present for my sister. (It's not a suprise.)

These tickets were supposed to be $10 each. They are open admission, standing room only. Guess how much my total bill was (and I chose the free shipping option since for some reason email wasn't offered and I couldn't stomach the thought of paying an additional $15 for them to mail me two pieces of paper sooner.)

$35.50. $35.50

What in the world Ticketmaster, how in the world can you get away with this? That's a 75% markup. And there is no other way to get these tickets. That would be like fandango charging you an extra $7.50 for your $10 movie tickets. They charge you $1.

Aren't they the classic example of a monopoly - a company that has no competitors so they can charge whatever they want to charge and we just grin and bear it. Monopolies are illegal.

They have no competitors. They charge an exhorbitant amount for their services. They provide an essential service (if you are a music fan).

Whatever, I hate Ticketmaster. And if I was The Fray, who are doing a pretty cool thing by keeping their ticket prices low only to have TM come in and still make the night an expensive outing, I'd be especially angry.

i hate ticketmaster too

I thought you meant THIS monopoly.

Posted by: Collin - Band Member on December 23, 2005 09:32 AM

I HATE HATE HATE Ticketmaster.

I have only gone to one concert in the past four years b/c everytime I check out shows and get ready to pay, I can't stomach paying THAT much more to see a show. There are alternative ticket purchasing sites, but its the venues need to get on board with them. Major League Baseball dumped them a few years ago and total ticket prices went way down.

Let us also not forget that it was Ticketmaster that caused the whole U2 ticket debacle of last Januray.

They are a corrupt organization and they need to be brought down somehow.

Posted by: jaysonjaz on December 23, 2005 11:24 AM

agreed. ticketmaster is terrible, clear channel (or the more friendly cc ) is evil, this is the state of music in the usa right now. of course some may say you screwed up by buying tickets to the "frays" anyway. i wonder how it happens because i know that when we have tm sell tickets they charge maybe a dollar or two, maybe the band has more power than they think?
what is a good alternative? interested to hear.

I bought tickets to Hannah Montana through ticketmaster when they released them for the third (or whatever time it was). However, when I was buying them on the phone and internet it kept telling me that only single tickets were available. I bought them anyway because my 11 year old daughter said it was better then nothing. She didn't mind sitting alone, and either did her friends. I figured I would let me 2 year old (who is also a die hard Hannah Montana fan) sit on my lap. A few days later, I was on ticketmaster and realized that seats were now being sold together. This kind of upset me so I called ticketmaster to make a suggestion. They were very rude.
While I had them on the phone I asked them to confirm my tickets for the concert that day. They did and told me I could pick them up at about 6:00(Sat.) at will call. The big problem with this is that the concert started at 4:00. Why would I pick the tickets up at 6:00 and miss the concert?
When I got to will call I was informed that 2 of my tickets were not available because I had purchased them for the previous show. I know this is not the case because the internet confirmation showed Saturdays show.
I had purchased all tickets at the same time, so why would these tickets be different. They would not let me enter the arena unless I purchased new tickets. I had no other choice but to purchase them because I could not leave two 11 year old girls outside and let two go. I also couldn't let them go in alone.
TICKETMASTER RIPPED ME OFF!!!!
Then to top it all off, When I was seated in my seat, and usher came over and wanted me to move out of it because there were people who did not have seats and were sitting on stairs. My poor 2 year old and I didn't even get to watch the concert because the usher and some woman were concerned with me moving out of my EXCESSIVELY PAID FOR SEAT and the whole row moving down. I ended up standing in the hall with the two year old so that other people could be accommodated, even though I had MORE than paid for my seat.

how do i know if the tickets i have just bought off you are valid. re: portsmouth v westbrom. thanks.

Does anyone know why charges for tickmaster tickets that were billed at $82.00 had $1319.00 charges added for TMDEAL charges? I just got scammed in a huge way. Isn't this illegal?

Posted by: Orange on May 2, 2008 04:25 PM

I hear ya!!! Tried to get Beastie Boys tickets right at 10 am. Had 3 computers going and was on the phone and it comes back nothing available all day!!!~ After it says nothing available it redirects you to ticketsnow.com (owned by ticket master) and has thousands of tix available at 100 to 300 percent mark ups. We need to complain to local news and better business bureaus. This has to be illegal. Oh yehbest part, tickets now had these tix before 10AM. SHADY!!!!!!!!!

Another corporation influencing government to their benefit while screwing us! BOYCOTT them!

Ticketmaster IS a scam. They have open several other companies for the "resale" of tickets, but claim its individual "professional resellers" So now, they can take tickets off their availiblity at Ticketmaster, then, sell it for at least double on TicketsNow! Don't believe their excuses. Ticketmaster scalps their own tickets!!

Posted by: Anonymous on January 10, 2009 08:38 PM

************A MESSAGE TO TICKETMASTER********** I was dying to go the Robin Williams show. I finally got the money together to go, then, ticketmaster scammed me. Ticketmaster IS a scam! I used to be a loyal customer. Honestly, I ONLY used ticketmaster for every show. Didn't even go to stub hub or expedia or whatever to get my show tickets. I trusted ticketmaster for all my concert, theatre, and kid show tickets. That was until you people started taking these tickets that are supposed to be a certain price, putting them on these other companies that YOU own, then sell them for double the price!! You think people are stupid?!?! Not all of em, and not me! I cannot believe that you guys are so low, dishonest, and CRIMINAL!!!!!!! I'm am so pissed that you Natzi thieves do this to people! And, it is creating a monopoly which is illegal! I will be doing all i can do to expose you for what you are!! Crooks! Which will include class action lawsuit. Now, you may think that it would never happen, but someone sued McDonalds for spilling coffee on themselves, you best believe that I WILL find a laywer ready to, at least get some spotlight on this disqusting display of buisness management and dishonesty! Maybe, if your customers are lucky, much more will happen to your crooked business. I will NEVER use your lousy buisness again, and if that means never seeing another show, I DON'T CARE!! But who cares about just me and my hard earned money when you make millioins anyway, right? I know. Your lack of respect for your customers (who give all that money to you) will lead to your downfall! And, mark my words, I will do everything I can to speed up that process!

i definitely bought $39.50 britney spears tickets for $90. more than twice what she had them for.

Posted by: Anonymous on February 4, 2009 10:53 PM

true that.... tryed to get good seats for nickelback before actual sale date. expected choice seat but instead had to settle for some mid level back section and that was presale. the good seats were bundled to there spin-off companies and tied to passwords or american express. Just tried for taylor swift for my daughter (presale) and same thing. It's not good enough that they have a monopoly, so they have to scam the public with off the chart prices. tell your local news media. big company scams young public during hard economic times. let the talking heads talk.

Posted by: hunt on February 12, 2009 04:09 PM

Nothing against Leonard Cohen, I LOVE the guy, but his tickets should be around $50 - $120 TOPS! March 2nd went to get tickets to his Calgary, AB concert and he's sold out the first day??? His tickets are now $800/pair on a ticket resaler advertised through Ticket Master.

Any lawyers out there know how to get a class action lawsuit against these crooks?

Ticketmasters has turned into legalized scalpers........
I'm trying to get tickets to Avenged Sevenfold but ticketmasters has a 30% mark-up for "Convenience Fee" and that is not even including the shipping cost if your not willing to take a chance on snail mail.

Posted by: Steve on March 16, 2009 04:06 PM

Just bought Dora the Explorer tickets that were supposed to be $16.50 for $31.50. I walked to the theatre to purchase the tickets because I thought I would be able to get them cheaper there (figured there would be no "convenience fee". NOPE the price ended up being just $1.5 less than had I sat in front of my computer and buy it straight from TicketMaster website. The stupid tickets were still from TicketMaster. What a fraud. I hate TicketMaster and the venues that use them suck too. How is this legal? Like someone asked before, isn't this a monopoly?
I say we start a boycott.

Have you ever thought about putting ads in your RSS feed? It looks like you get a good amount of traffic on your website. I know some readers don't appreciate ads very much, but it could provide a way to at least pay for the hosting or even get a few extra coins. I know I usually click on the ads on websites that I appreciate just to show support. Just something you should think about.

It is receiving a bit more subjective, but I considerably prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has far more flair, and some cool characteristics like 'Mixview' that allow you to speedily see linked albums, songs, or other users connected to that which you're listening to. Clicking on certainly one of all those will center on that merchandise, and a different set of "neighbors" will can come into view, allowing you to navigate all around exploring by related artists, songs, or end users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Interpersonal" is additionally wonderful fun, letting you locate other folks with shared tastes and turning into mates with them. You then can hear to a playlist created determined by an amalgamation of what all of your buddies are listening to, which can be also satisfying. Individuals worried with privacy might be relieved to understand you can stop the public from seeing your personal listening habits should you so pick.

Hey, mind if I bend your ear a bit? I have something important that you might like :-) My buddies and I (we’re from Florida) have been watching this blog for a while and we really like it so we decided to share something with you that’s been working for our websites. I’m not sure if you knew this, but building an email list is HUGE. You can increase your visitors, and if you monitize them correctly, they can be a serious gold mine. There is a lot I would love to talk to you about that you can do to increase your revenue here. However, I won’t do it justice. Just go here instead: http://www.make1150weekly.info/ and check out what these crazy guys are doing. Personally, I have revamped all of my sites (didn’t take much time at all) and I’m making a steady $200-$400 DAILY, swear on my mother I made $274 yesterday from blogs. Amazing huh? Just a couple weeks ago, I was happy scraping by with 6 bucks a day on adsense heh. Check it out, really. You’ll be doing yourself a huge favor.
