Difficulties, but all worth it. . .
On Wednesday night, we were getting together to do our "final" mix of Becoming, Fanatic, and All Our Hands. 6 to 8 hours later. . . only Becoming is really finished. We had to record some new parts to all of them, and that was all well and good, but things really took a long time, and then there were some technical difficulties (but only a hint of things to come).
OK, so then we reconvene on Saturday night to really finish this thing off. Or at least we think so. We stayed at the Studio for 5 hours and got absolutely nothing finished. Actually it was only me Ian and David. And we literally accomplished nothing. Brad, our engineer, spent the night pulling out his hair, swearing, freaking out, losing guitar solos, and somehow managing to transfer everything out of sync so that we could do nothing with it. So while Brad tried to figure some more stuff out, to no avail. . . we jammed out on the drums, organ, piano, and got our frustrations out. Kind of.
So Brad promises to properly transfer everything somewhere else, and we were to get together this morning at 8.30 AM for our final mixdown. Should only take 2 hours. . . yeah right. That doesn't take into account the Firewire going haywire, the computer dying, Brad accidentally transferring over the wrong tracks, etc etc. It's amazing how many things can go wrong.
I have to say, it's hard putting in the long hours, but it's also so great. So fun to sit around and talk with a great bunch of guys. Josh, thanks for all your help, we really appreciate it!
FINALLY, by 2 PM (oh man, what happened to 2 hours?), we have a suitable mixdown and the arduous journey seems to be over!!! The songs sound really great, and it's exciting.

Hey doesn't sound so bad! All of that time I was home studying for my finals. I keep my mixing time to a minimum by using a crappy program in whch you can't mix at all. When I record, I use the one-track very, and again i say, very low quality voice recorder on my computer. You can lay down one track and export it to iTunes and from there to a CD. By keeping it simple, I have a lot more time and some terrible recordings.
