Ian's New Song
Ok, it's very rough, and it was the first take. But here you go, I think it's nice. . .

Ian- I love the lyrics to your song. Those in poverty and who are suffering are dear to my heart. You express how we all are living in such comfort and so many have nothing, definitely a wake up call. I also love that you give a solution to the problem---seeking God to give us the ability and giving of ourselves. So many songs deal with suffering but never give a solution---this is such an uplifting way to share your feelings about a truly difficult subject, the poverty that so many live in. It sounds really good too...even though its still rough. In my opinion, definitely not a cheesy song :)

Katie,
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I really hope that this song will somehow speak to people. It's easy to recognize problems in the world, and complain about them, but it's hard to realize that one person can really make a change in the world. I just want to emphasize that it is possible, and it's not that hard! For instance a person could support a child through compassion (compassion.com) for only about a dollar a day. It would pay for all of their food, clothing, education, and make sure they had a chance to learn about Jesus. I realize that everyone (including myself) doesn't have $30 extra dollars every month, but there is so much more we could do. For example: you can buy fair trade coffee and make sure that you are helping someone in a third world nation make a livable wage or you can volunteer at local homeless shelters.
Poverty is much more than a physical lack. If you take time and look there are people all around us who have nothing spiritually or emotionally. They are just barely scraping by. It's a poverty just as serious and just as deadly as starvation. It doesn't take money to help these people, it takes time, it takes friendship, it takes God. But we can make a change!
Hi Ian,
I realize this comment is a bit late but I thought I should leave one. When i listened to your song -- it confirmed and inspired my love for the people I want to reach out to. tonight i had a meeting for my up-coming Namibia mission trip and then i came home and listened to this...it made me think deeper into what I will be doing for these children. almost all are tested possitive for AIDS/ HIV. then, i read your comment about fair trade which my family participates in and boy, it was all coming back to me -- the ways i can help and reach out to people --- on Gods mission field, fulfilling our call. like sweatshops, fair trade, and all the other big and little things. thanks a bunch. way to go and keep it up - i definitely think you should polish and perfect this guy. alright, thats all. :-)
Hey Ian!,
Ok, I meant to leave this on my last comment but forgot. awhile ago my brother and I discovered a sweatshop/fair trade website that really has a ton of info on it ( its pretty "different" but I found alot on it for some research I was doing for a school english paper) ... I thought you might like to check it out or maybe tell others about it.
ok its www.behindthelabel.org
Peace
It'll make you happy to know that all of our merchandise is sweatshop free. It makes me happy to know that at least.
Yeah, just so you guys know, our shirts are made by a company that hires mentally handicapped people and teaches them a vocation that will help support them for their whole lives. They do a really good job too!
That's too awesome ! I'm so glad to hear it !!
