Not happy with U2.com fan club ticketing at all

In the glory days of the U2 fan club, they would send all fan club members a ticket order form. And as long as you sent it back the day you got it, I was always assured of getting very good tickets. They saved very good tickets for the fans. Imagine that!

See, the way I consider it, the people who spend $40 a year for the honor of being in a fan club are the people who won't be happy getting tickets that are upper level and slightly behind the stage.

Oh yeah, did I mention that? I logged on at 10 AM precisely. . . and the best available for me was section 221A. Behind the stage. Somehow they "sold out" of the general admission right away. That is to say, they didn't make many available to the FANS at all. It makes no sense. They should have made all of them available to the fans. Like they used to.

I'm ranting. But I just wanted good tickets. And I paid for it!

Update
Apparently I'm not the only one upset. I wrote to u2.com and told them that I want a chance to get General Admission Floor seats or else I want my $40 back. I'm normally pretty good at getting compaints heard, so we'll see.

Aw man thats what i hate about seats and all that. I like concerts where you just pay general admission and go super early to get crammed in the front oh yea! lolz really like the concert im gonna go to (Taste of Chaos), its on a school day so i convinced my parents to let me off school and go early. I mean come on! They have singnature booths too! I am not going late! ha but yea i tried to get a ticket for the U2 concert too and i tried early but the inevitable happened...all gone :(

I'm not usually one for complaining, but I got royally screwed over with this whole "fan club" special ticket release. I logged in the minute tickets were on sale and bought "best available" tickets. Guess what. I am in the freaking nose bleed section. I not only paid full price for these "fan club" tickets but I paid money to join the club. So what that boils down to is that when tickets go on sale to the general public, some shmoe will log in and get way better tickets than I did for much less money.

You know what bono... you can rot.

"For this tour, U2.com took over the fan club and associated presale chores and attempted to use Ticketmaster and Fanfire to coordinate the sale. Longtime fans were especially distressed. On the message boards at interference.com, U2 fan adenoid_hynkel wrote, “The band took a reliable fan-friendly service like Propaganda and replaced it with a poorly-managed company.”

Ticketmaster is a blight upon our society and I wish I had the power to destroy them. I've always hated them and probably will forever. From my teenage years when I would allocate entire mornings to call, wait, "i'm sorry all circuits are busy.. please try your call again" to redial, over and over and over again. I don't think I ever once got tickets to a show that I wanted over the phone. Then last year I wanted to buy tickets for the Thrice show at the merriwether. The tickets cost $20 but ticketmaster for some reason saw it reasonable to put a $7 service charge on top of that. How is it reasonable for them to add almost 30% to a ticket price. I could see maybe back in the day when it was all phone business, but there costs should go down if its all computer based for the most part.

So hearing that it was tickmaster's fault that you guys all got screwed does not suprise me at all.

Don't worry, they give you a metal keychain big enough to eat dinner off of. That makes it all worth it right?

Woa, woa, woa, Let's not loss our heads here.Sure it really sucks but...Bono...rotting? Col, say it ain't so. I smelled a rat from the get go on that one guys. You would have thought I would jump right on it, but it just seemed weird to me.Last tour, Elizabeth and I stood in line for like a really long time in the cold for a raffle to see who would be the first in line and honestly, our seats were really rad. So, all I can say is, sometimes you have to really do whatever it takes to get a good seat. But what happened to Propaganda people getting tickets? Anyway, guys, that sucks and I would be totally pissed too.

My problem is not with Ticketmaster at all. Whether I take my chances in line or with the internet, it is going to be crowded and slightly chaotic. I mean I could stand in line all night only to find out I didn't win a raflle and the person who got there ten minutes before the start of the raffle beats me out! I have not seen a good solution to create a level playing field. I would rather just wait in line all night to be sure, I like to be able to control my own destiny!! So with U2s fan club I thought I could do that. Unfortunately, I paid the $40 and expected respect from the band. Instead I got $350 tickets that are in the back corner of the arena, far, far from the stage! So my problem with it all is not Ticketmaster it is with U2's billing and management people. I expect more as a fan, instead they just allocate "bad" seats for all of us! Ticketmaster can only sell what they are authorized to sell, so it is not their fault. U2 needs to step up and apologize, give back the membership money, open a second show in Philly and offer the "good" seats the second time around!

If they think that dumb keychain is going to make up for it, they've got another thing coming.

Bono says that he runs his band like a business and he feels that it is only fair for him to make a LOT of money off of it. I agree. That is his right and I am happy for them and their success.

However, this has gone way too far. Taking advantage of their biggest fans' loyalty to make tons of extra money is cut-throat and wrong. We were duped. U2 literally made millions of dollars on mambership dues. They promised that if you merely pay the $40 fee, you will be garunteed priority tickets. Well I for one do not think that the back corner of an arena is "priority seating." I paid way more for way less. I and thousands of other fans fell for this scam and now we are not happy about it.

I think you are all missing the point. U2 once upon a time was for its fans and they always put their fans first. This has changed. I live in Australia and have been a u2 fan for over 20 years. I have every album and have been to every concert that I can within Australia. This concert I could not get a ticket and they only are doing one concert in Qld!!!!!!! Why do that to your fans? I have been waiting a long time for them to come out as when they last toured they didnt come to Australia because of the dollar. What is with that? This is not catering for fans. One concert sucks. I am so disappointed in them. I think this is a slap in their fans face. Especially because the concert sold out in just over an hour.
