Poor Ashlee Simpson at the Orange Bowl
I know that she has ridden her sister's coattails. I know she lip-synced. I know she only sold albums because of the MTV reality show.
But my goodness, is she even 18 yet? And she has 72,000 people booing her on live TV in front of 100 Million viewers? I can't imagine being 17 and getting that kind of treatment. You already think everyone secretly thinks ill of you at that age anyway.
In a fame obsessed country, this is worst than a public execution.
I can't imagine what she is thinking. Really. I know she doesn't deserve what she's gotten (the record deal, the platinum sales. . . the final episode from last season featured her first live show ever. . .and she had a deal?), but unless one is a homicidal maniac, noone deserves what she is getting now.
Let it go, consumers of America. She is trying. She's really trying.
She's just not that good.
But I for one will be watching the second season of her show. I want to see the up close reactions to the SNL debacle and then this show too.
So maybe she's good at something.
Oh, and by the way, if that game had been played in Philly, all the media would be talking about would be "Of course those Philly fans, all they do is boo." Just an aside.

yes, I do feel very sorry for Ashlee. I mean geez, she doesn't want to be compared to her sister but everything she does is a mirror of Jessica's career. But somehow everything she does isn't quite as good. She must really have to deal with some serious jealousy issues. I think that I would feel a lot better about her if she wasn't such a jerk( and completely obnoxious) and if she just owned up to the fact that acid reflux isn't really a reason for all your live performances to suck. If she can't ever sing well live, she isn't really cut out to be a professional singer.I must admit that some of her songs are catchy and they get stuck in my head...but then again, she didn't write her songs...yeah, I think she sucks, but doesn't deserve to get booed off the stage that is just heartbreaking.
Jase - you know I was watching this and I too felt bad for her. Do I think she is a good singer? No, but people are just mean now. She is taking all the slack of what every other pop star (male or female) has done for years. I say she retires now and in a couple of years VHI will feature her in a "Where are they now?" segment.
I feel really sorry for her too... That poor 17 year old multi millionaire.
Collin... I have to ask... would you like to get booed in front of that many people? I agree, yeah, she's got alot of dough, but that doesn't make happiness even though it is a def. plus to being a "star"... something to think abt. (and no I'm not mad if that was unclear from my tone... I'm fine just thought I'd put that perspective up)
If you would give me a tenth of the money she has made I would go to an NFL game every week of the season and let everybody there boo me for the whole half time.
*shrugs* I don't really like her attitude though. Kinda stuck up. Also the whole deal with her songs like shadow. Oh look at me Im so depressed cause my sister has all the fame but yet we have millions poor ashlee. Also lolz I like Ryan Cabrera and yea haha!

Boo hoo. I'm with Ian and Collin. For a couple thousand bucks, I'd have no problem singing off key and getting booed by thousands of people on national tv. For 20 minutes. NAKED. Heck, I'd do it for $50 and pat on the back.
I think the real blame for what happened though lies with the genius that scheduled Ashlee Simpson to perform at a college football game in the first place, especially a big game like the Orange Bowl. What an idiot. That's like having Ja Rule perform at the Vatican. You know the Pope would be booing his pointy little hat off if that happened.
This is how I see it. If you are a horrible football player, you will never in a million years play in the NFL. If you are horrible at math, you will never be an accounting superstar. If you suck at singing, why would you try to make a profession out of it? She just got what she had coming to her.
If you've seen her show, she really can't sing. On her own anyway.
